Farmland Preservation Plan

Dane County is in the final stages of a state mandated update to the Farmland Preservation Plan. This is the first comprehensive revision to the Dane County Farmland Preservation Plan since its initial adoption in 1981. Recent changes to state law require the county to update the Farmland Preservation Plan and submit it to the state Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection for recertification by December 31, 2012. Recertification is necessary to maintain farmers' eligibility for state farmland preservation tax credits.

The revised plan sets Dane County's goals, objectives and policies for protecting working agricultural lands, supporting the farm economy, and making sure farmers have the tools necessary to keep farming in the county for the next century.
